SCULPTURE

In addition to the world around him, Zayas is also interested in creating art that captures movement and energy. In 1998, when he left LA and spent almost a year in Michoacán, Mexico—a place famous for its clear skies—every night he observed the night sky with a telescope and created drawings connecting the stars. Using metal rods, he recreated the renderings as sculptures. The sculptures appear abstract; yet they are drawn directly from nature. He says: “I have always thought that true art is a form of energy, pure and transparent. My goal is to transmit this energy.”
